S.T.E.P. CASHIER/SALES TRAINING

CANDIDATES: learners with special needs who
would benefit from customized training to prepare for cashier/sales work


GOAL:

• To develop marketable skills for job transactions, interactions and record-keeping



SERVICE HIGHLIGHTS:

Customized, 1:1 programs that target a full range
of practical skills

Integrated math/language instruction to enhance underlying abilities

Creative training strategies to respond to
different learning styles and challenges



POTENTIAL PROGRAM COMPONENTS:

› REGISTER OPERATIONS – registering amounts; managing special functions (e.g., discounts, tax exemptions, voids, refunds); interpreting and changing register tapes

› SALES TRANSACTIONS – collecting cash payments and tendering change; processing credit card, debit and cheque payments; receiving coupons and gift certificates; handling returns and exchanges

› SALES/SERVICE INTERACTIONS – using customer service skills for effective communication: e.g., greeting customers, answering inquiries, offering information, and handling complaints

› RECORD-KEEPING – preparing float records; tallying and reconciling sales for shift reports; filling out deposit forms; completing other work documents for cashier/sales duties

› OTHER SKILLS – enhancing math and language skills to work with currency, estimate and check machine calculations, perform record-keeping, and manage communication
